03/05 Finishing Fat Sam's Grand Slam

Before the Easter holidays on Tuesday the 5th of April, we all had an after school rehearsal in which we started learning the dance moves to 'Fat Sam's Grand Slam'. However, we only managed to get up to the instrumental so during the after rehearsal on the 3rd of May, we continued to choreograph it.
Firstly, we ran through what we had already learnt a couple of times, so that Liz (the choreographer) could see how much we could remember. Quite a few of us were fine, especially myself, Anna and Adam. It is quite obvious to see that us three can all dance well anyway as also we are all apart of clubs outside of school in which we have been taught and trained to dance properly. However, others in the class either remembered little parts of it and just put hardly any effort into it or others just didn't remember it all. This is also partly due to the fact that people were messing around in the first class that we did it and that they haven't bothered to review it over half term. I however, remembered the moves fine as I find it easy to pick up and remember dance routines.
Once we ran it through a few times, we decided to move on so that we could start to learn the last half of the song. In some places the moves were repeated so it wasn't that bad as we didn't have to remember even more moves. We picked up from the instrumental, and luckily we were given something different to do, which made it more fun to rehearse rather than repeating the same things. Here we had to do four steps to the right but also whilst turning, and then do four little step digs, we then repeated it to the left. After, we then repeated some of the previous moves in the dance up until we got back to the line "each night astounds you", where this time, instead of Fat Sam doing a kart wheel, we have his sidekick Knuckles (Jodie) doing the splits. This really works well as they both act alongside each other throughout the show and you wouldn't expect two of the main manly characters to be doing a kart wheels or the splits, also whilst wearing suits. We then repeated everything that we did in the first verse of the song to complete the last verse. We were set into our final positions, mainly with a partner. I was paired with Anna and we have to finish downstage centre and blow a kiss to the audience. I found this bit the most fun of all as I really felt like my own character 'Tallulah' as she blows kisses throughout the show and it felt quite cheeky. Finally, we went over the song a few more times so that it started to sink into our minds and to make sure we all know what we are doing.
For me I found the rehearsal quite frustrating and tedious as we had to keep stopping and starting for others to catch up etc so we had to learn it all at a much slower pace whereas, I am used to learning dances at a much faster pace as I attend a dance class outside of school and we learn things at a more advanced level. Still, I will carry on practicing so that I don't forget what we have learnt and to also help to keep others on their feet.
